An Interview with Art Intel

Interviewed by Vincent Francone

Why was I worried about interviewing Art Intel, Jabber’s resident nonhuman? Was it intimidation? After all, Art composes stories that are mercifully free of the snark, edge, and PoMo knowingness. Wouldn’t it be nice to converse with a writer whose work values immediacy and deceptive simplicity? Indeed, it was, but, as you will see from my questions, a dash of apprehension crept in. Thankfully Art is an open book. Nothing to hide.

An Interview with Joe Mallon

Interviewed by Vincent Francone

Joe Mallon is a Chicago writer, through and through. And though I state in this interview that there is no one writing style inherent to city where we both live, there is nevertheless a kind of Chicago story, the kind Joe writes. The words “tough” and “funny” and maybe “gritty” or “dark” might be combined to get close to describing this style. We try to pin some of this down, and Joe nicely interrogates his work and details some of what fuels his voice, a voice you should definitely check out by clicking here

An Interview with Christine Sneed

Interviewed by Vincent Francone

When Jabber was envisioned as a place for the absurd, we couldn’t have imagined Christine Sneed’s Please Be Advised, because only she could. But I do recall hearing what I now know was a selection from this novel in memos in 2019 when I had the pleasure of reading with her at the Northwestern Summer Writers Conference. Now that the book is in print, I wanted to chat with Christine and get some insights into the novel as well as her own history with office life. She was kind enough to oblige my request, results below. (PS: Please Be Advised is about the funniest and most original thing I’ve read this year. Buy a copy. Buy two. Give one to someone you know. Read it, enjoy and  commiserate with anyone who’s ever worked in an office.)

An Interview with Bathsheba Monk

Interviewed by Vincent Francone

Bathsheba Monk is a writer, publisher, painter, and god knows what else. I knew some of these things about her, but to be honest, my interactions with her have been as a publisher and head of Blue Heron Book Works, the press that has published my books. I knew she’d have plenty of things to say about writing and publishing, and everything else considering she has a blog called Bathsheba Monk Explains Everything. We meet by Zoom (sigh) and I edited our chat for flow, but this is pretty much how it went.

A book, front and back displayed. The title on the font cover "A Book Nobody Wrote: Stories by Artificial Inteligence by Art Intel." Displayed is an image of a typewriter with a robot head.

Support Jabber’s Staff

We hired an A.I. bot to write for us and help us fund raise the expenses to publish our very real, very human work. Instead of a simple donation, we thought a fun joke book would be a nice exchange. Don’t worry, A.I. won’t be replacing us real writers any time soon.
